LPU THORChain Updates (Mid Sep 2022)

In this series, LPU aims to give regular condensed “state of THORChain” updates. Enjoy!

1. Next Chain Vote

This signaling vote from the Node Operators ended with BSC getting the highest votes, followed closely by XHV (and DASH a commendable third). Path forward: core devs have started working with XHV devs to further develop their integration code; while Nine Realms will start with BSC after successfully launching AVAX.

2. Avalanche AVAX Integration

Some additional minor bugs (see below) caused further delay in the AVAX launch. But SoonTM!

3. Node Churn Bug, TSS-Lib Security, Ethereum Merge

There was a Node Churning bug which prevented a successful churn. Node Churning was delayed until patch v1.96.1 was pushed out, adopted by all Node Operators, and finally Node Churning resumed as normal.

At the same time, a Threshold Signature Scheme Library (TSS-Lib) potential security issue was highlighted by security researchers. All TSS signings were paused (including all trading and LP activities) while devs studied the issue. After a few hours, it was deemed that THORChain had no exposure, and thus all trading and LP were resumed.

This happened while the Ethereum Merge was ongoing. As planned, the Ethereum chain Bifrost was halted an hour before the Merge, as an abundance of caution. Once the Merge was successful without any unexpected issue, the Ethereum chain Bifrost was restarted smoothly.

4. Single Sided Yield
