Vultisig - Wallet Recovery Re-Imagined
Self-custody has always come with a painful paradox: ultimate control over your assets, but total responsibility if something goes wrong.
A lost seed phrase, a hacked private key, or a single malicious signature, and your funds are gone forever. 🥺
@vultisig rewrites this story. By replacing seed phrases with Vault Shares, it introduces a new standard for wallet security and recovery: seedless, multi-device, trust-minimised custody that combines security with a smooth user experience.
Let’s dive in ⤵️
🧐 TRADITIONAL WALLET FLAWS
Most crypto wallets today are built on the same foundations:
▫️Private keys
A single key controls everything. If it’s compromised, the attacker owns your assets.
▫️Seed phrases
Keys are backed up with 12-24 plain text words. Convenient for recovery, but anyone who gets those words can drain your wallet.
▫️One-click risk
Wallets rely on user approvals. One malicious signature, one phishing attack, and funds can be gone in seconds.

These systems are vulnerable to a single point of failure. Whether through human error, theft, or device loss, the weakest link can cost everything.
🔑 SHARES INSTEAD OF SEEDS
When you create a vault in Vultisig, your devices phone, laptop, tablet, desktop, each generate a Vault Share. None of them hold a full private key. Only when enough devices collaborate is a transaction approved.
This design means:
🔹There is no master seed phrase to steal.
🔹Device loss isn’t catastrophic, as long as you meet the threshold.
🔹Recovery comes from your distributed shares, not from a piece of paper.
Think of it like a vault at a bank. Instead of one skeleton key, it requires multiple keys turned at once.

🔓FAST VAULTS AND SECURE VAULTS
Vultisig offers two vault types, tailored for different use cases.
▫️FAST VAULTS▫️
Fast Vaults offer the experience of a hot wallet.
They use one device paired with the Vultiserver (see below), which acts as an automatic co-signer under rules you set.
To you, it feels like a simple one-device wallet, but it still runs with two factors behind the scenes, offering more security than a traditional hot wallet.
Fast Vaults are ideal for day-to-day spending, quick swaps, or smaller balances where convenience matters most.

▫️SECURE VAULTS▫️
Secure Vaults are the cold wallet equivalent.
They consist only of your own devices, with thresholds like 2-of-3 or 3-of-4. These vaults are redundant, meaning you can lose a device and still retain access to your funds.
Secure Vaults are recommended for long-term holdings, DAO treasuries, or situations where multiple parties should authorise funds.

Both types use the same underlying cryptography, but their trade-offs are clear: Fast Vaults prioritise daily usability, while Secure Vaults maximise security.
⚙️ UNIQUE INFRASTRUCTURE
Two components power the experience:
▫️VULTISERVER
It never holds your funds, but it will co-sign transactions when your pre-set rules are met. During setup, you get an encrypted backup of the server share, so you always keep full control, even if the server goes offline.
👉The benefit is simple: Vultiserver lets you sign with just one wallet, while still keeping strong security (no seed phrase risk)
▫️RELAY SERVER
The Vultisig Relay Server is a critical infrastructure that enables encrypted messaging between user devices over the Internet. It ensures efficient and smooth messaging between devices that have Vultisig installed.
⏫FROM GG20 to DKLS23 TO ENHANCE UX
Under the hood, Vultisig uses Threshold Signature Schemes (TSS) to protect assets. Originally based on GG20, the protocol required six message rounds between devices to sign a transaction. It was secure, but not always practical.
In 2025, Vultisig upgraded to DKLS23, developed with Silence Laboratories. This was a major leap in user experience, with 5-10x faster signing, fewer messaging rounds (3 instead of 6), full compatibility with browser extensions, and reduced battery drain for the user.
👉The result is security you don’t notice: cryptography strong enough to protect your funds, but fast enough to feel invisible.

🛠️ MARKETPLACE & SDK - BUILDING BEYOND THE WALLET
Vultisig is not just a place to store funds. It’s designed as an infrastructure layer, giving both users and developers new ways to interact with self-custody. This happens through two pillars: the SDK and the Marketplace.
▫️THE SDK - CUSTODY AS A BUILDING BLOCK▫️
The Vultisig SDK allows developers to plug Vultisig’s vault logic directly into their own apps. That means instead of each project reinventing wallet infrastructure, they can build on Vultisig’s seedless, cross-device custody.
Practical examples:
🔹AI agents can be given controlled signing rights, able to execute trades, manage positions, or rebalance portfolios, but always within the policy rules you set in your vault.
🔹Custody platforms can use the SDK to offer secure, threshold-based key management without exposing themselves to the risks of holding private keys directly.
🔹DeFi apps can integrate Vultisig so their users transact through Vault Shares rather than seed phrases, removing the single point of failure.
👉In short, the SDK turns Vultisig into an embeddable custody layer for anything from trading bots to DAO treasuries.

▫️THE MARKETPLACE - HOME OF PLUGINS▫️
On top of this foundation sits the Vultisig App Store: an open distribution hub for plugins and agents built with the SDK.
👉Developers can create specialised tools, publish them in the Marketplace, and earn revenue directly when users activate them.
For users, this means access to a growing catalogue of audited, community-rated tools inside the Vultisig app. Imagine being able to:
🔹 Install a DCA plugin to automatically buy $RUNE every week.
🔹 Run a portfolio manager that rebalances assets to your chosen allocations.
🔹 Automate subscriptions with a plugin that pays them monthly.
🔹 Manage payrolls with recurring automated payments.
🔹 Use an AI assistant to monitor your vault and flag suspicious activity.
Because everything runs through Vault Shares, these plugins can’t unilaterally take action. They inherit the same threshold signing security as your vault.

And the marketplace can be lucrative for developers. The model is similar to the Apple App Store:
🔹70% of fees from a plugin or agent go straight to the developer.
🔹30% flow into the $VULT token economy, rewarding stakers and supporting the ecosystem.
This creates a loop where developers are incentivised to build high-quality tools, users benefit from a curated marketplace, and the Vultisig platform grows stronger with every plugin added. 🔄
🗺️ ROADMAP, WHAT'S NEXT?
Vultisig’s path forward is about scaling from a wallet into a full custody ecosystem. The focus areas are clear: making vaults more useful for users, turning the SDK into a developer standard, integrating more chains, expanding into more platforms, and preparing for $VULT.
▫️AI DRIVEN MARKETPLACE
The first plugins are on the way. The Vultisig App Store will let users install tools like DCA strategies, auto-compounders, or payroll plugins all bound by vault security.
▫️WIDER SDK ADOPTION
The SDK is being refined with easier CLI tools, making it straightforward for external teams to build on Vultisig custody. This shift, from product to ecosystem, is what positions Vultisig as the default signer and key manager across crypto.
▫️MORE CHAINS, ASSETS AND INTEGRATIONS
Integrations are moving quickly: Nami Protocol’s $yRUNE and $yTCY indices are now live in the app, Vultisig is supported on Solana Mobile, and both Tron and Solana are integrated. Each addition expands the vault’s reach across DeFi.
▫️ $VULT TOKEN LAUNCH AND STAKING
The Token Generation Event is approaching. $VULT will tie plugin activity, automation fees, and staking rewards together. As a reminder, a portion of the fees will go to $VULT stakers.
💭CLOSING THOUGHTS
For users, Vultisig means vaults that are safer than seed phrases but just as simple to use. For developers, it’s a composable custody layer. And for the community, it’s a token economy tied directly to real activity.
This vision aligns closely with THORChain itself. Just as THORChain removed trusted bridges to make cross-chain swaps truly decentralised, @vultisig removes seed phrases to make custody truly secure. Both are tackling different layers of the same challenge: eliminating single points of failure in DeFi.
Vultisig’s next steps position it not only as a wallet, but as a cornerstone of cross-chain custody and automation within the THORChain ecosystem.
