Under the Hood: Rune Supply

Snapshot on 21-Oct-2025:

1. RUNE Burned

From Nov-2024, a 5% burn on THORChain’s System Income was enacted. This means RUNE supply is continuously deflating.

2. Total Supply / Maximum Supply

THORChain started with a Maximum Supply of 500m RUNE. This Maximum Supply is continuously decreasing due to the Burn.

The current Total Supply was decreased by 73.7m RUNE via:

- BEP2/ERC20 Killswitch: 13.9m removed, Jul-2023

- Burning of Standby Reserves (ADR12): 60m removed, Mar-2024

- Net mint from Lending: 0.2m minted, Lending deprecated Jan-2025

Moving forward, there is no minting of RUNE.

3. Circulating Supply

The Circulating Supply is Total Supply minus Uncirculating (Reserve).

4. Uncirculating (Reserve)

The Reserve stopped emitting Block Rewards on Feb-2025. Since then, it was slowly accruing some RUNE from transaction and outbound fees. This fresh accrual will be periodically emitted as System Income, but the Reserve amount of ~74m RUNE (when Block Rewards were stopped) will not be touched.

5. Bonded RUNE

The amount of RUNE bonded to validator nodes.

6. Pooled RUNE

The amount of RUNE in the Liquidity Pools.

The tracker also tracks RUNE in users’ wallets, Treasury, and major centralized exchanges (Binance, Kraken and Bybit).
